Victorian Land Registry Services (VLRS) is at the nexus of old and new, public and private. We’re an innovative start-up that was granted a 40-year concession by the Victorian Government in 2018 to run the commercial operations of the 160-year old Land Titles Office and Registry.

The Head of Legal & Company Secretary is an exciting new role with responsibility for providing expert senior-level counsel to the Executive, commercial and operational teams within the business. The position is responsible for the business’ strategic and day to day legal affairs, including oversight across contract review and negotiation, and advice on legal, regulatory and compliance requirements. The position will hold the role of Company Secretary, and will perform that role, with support from the team.
  
  
The Role
Reporting to the GM Corporate & Strategy you will lead the legal and secretariat team and be responsible for ensuring the team works collaboratively with the broader business, providing relevant legal, Board and commercial advice.
  
This is a commercially focussed role, requiring you to exercise judgement in the context of the regulatory environment, our operating concession deed and our relationships with multiple stakeholders.  It has team and people leadership responsibilities, and you’ll need to guide and develop your team to deliver both high level strategic advice as well as proactively responding to emerging operational issues.

This role will suit a lawyer with a minimum of 12+ years PQE legal and management experience that has been gained in a quality law firm and/or in-house environment. Broad corporate and commercial law knowledge and in-house corporate experience is essential. Specialist expertise in any of the following would be favourably regarded: privacy & data, competition law, information technology procurement, private equity and property and government.  The broad coverage gained from any experience mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance or government to private transactions would set you up well for this role.
  
Your strong influencing and advisory skills, commercial nous and sound judgment will be used to proactively manage workload and deadlines. You pride yourself on being self-motivated, resourceful, professional, a strong team player, with a track record of continuous improvement and process efficiency. Although this role is a senior leader in our organisation and has strategic objectives to deliver – you need to be comfortable with rolling up your sleeves and getting into the operational detail when needed.
